Simon Atkinson & The Foundryman's Apprentice - The Pawnbroker

from COMPILATION ALBUM - Save Bailey Guitars by Sam Winston

/

about

Although a professional/semi-pro performer for over 30 years Simon came relatively late to songwriting. Developing and performing his own folk/jazz material initially within a duo Simon soon began 'collecting musicians' - calling firstly on players from his time as a jazz, swing & blues vocalist within the successful combo Simon Atkinson & The Ben Marcato Trio (Glastonbury Festival 2007 / 2008)

The original line up of The Foundryman's Apprentice began performing Simon's compositions in 2011 with the band recording an EP 'The Pawnbroker' - released to very positive reviews in 2012 including BBC Radio 2's Paul Gambaccini - 'A Recording Which Should Be Taken Seriously..'

In the following years the current line up of the band performed to very enthusiastic audiences at a variety of events and venues including Celtic Connections and the Wickerman Festival in 2013 and 2015 where the band were described as 'Folk-jazz Innovators' The recording of Simon Atkinson & the Foundryman's Apprentice’s album A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE incorporates both Simon's new and updated songs recorded over a two year period during the various incarnations of the band and includes the revised version of ‘The Pawnbroker’ featuring John Duffy on Bailey Bouzouki.

" The musicianship is faultless...This is classic songwriting in the mould of THE DIVINE COMEDY" Gerry Cassidy - The Word on the Streets (Magazine)

Simon first performed the song solo at one of the Acoustic Bliss sessions run by Carol and Mark Bailey at the Firehouse in Ayr before forming the band - this, therefore, makes it extra special! This song features on the album 'A Different Kind of Love' available on iTunes or CDbaby.com.
